Installing Laminate on Uneven Floors

Installing laminate on uneven floors is not the way the manufacturers say it should be done. But sooner or later someone is going to install their laminate over a uneven surface.

A lot of homes have floors that are uneven. Old houses that settle over time is a good example. Mobile homes are notorious for uneven floors, especially where a double wide mobile home is connected in the middle. Even concrete floors can have humps and dips.

Manufacturers specify that the floor cannot vary by 1/4 inch in a 6 foot radius. The reason is because the joints will move when installed over uneven floors and break over time. This would probably happen with some cheap inexpensive laminate flooring.
