I am replacing the vinyl entry and when I torn the carpet around it the vinyl extended about 10" the carpet. Do I need to leave more than a couple inches for the carpet to rest on? PS: we are also having a company lay new carpet also.

A- Hi Kathy
When ever I installed an entry way I always ran the vinyl under the carpet. But then I realized that after a while the vinyl would start to curl under the carpet and push the carpet up.

Its good to lay the vinyl past the edge where the carpet will be, BUT when the carpet installers install the carpet they will most likely use a metal strip to stop the carpet. After they install the metal strip they need to cut off the excess vinyl so there is none left under the new carpet.

Hope this helps you some, Anthony Garrison
