Installing Laminate on Bottom Stair To Carpet

I have laminate stairs coming down to a carpeted floor and I'm not sure how to transition from the bottom laminate stair to the carpeted floor.

The part of the stair case that will contact the carpet will be the bottom riser. The best way to finish it off is to cut the bottom riser a little short where it meets the floor. Cut it so it touches the carpet and hides the gap at the bottom. Don't push it tight to the floor, there may be tack strip there holding the carpet. If you ever take up the carpet and put laminate on the bottom floor you can hide the gap with quarter round.
